It is confirmed: the french European Funboard Expression freestyle contest will host an EFPT stage this year!

After years of running a very successful local event and also the finals of the European Kids Pro Tour at Six Fours les Plages, the organisers Steve Palier and Fred Bosson, decided to step up the level this year and host a stop of the EFPT.

‘Since 2010, we had to think twice without hurrying’ say the organisers. ‘Before welcoming the best freestylers and convincing the partners to help raise the prize money of €5.000, we preferred to wait a few years and organised the National Funboard Expression and then the Pro Kids Championships. The past years have been very successful. Thanks to great communication, the EFE is now well known and our organisation is perfectly set up.’

The massive support from official institutions such as TPM (Urban Community), the Regional and General Councils, the town hall and tourism office, as well as Station Nautique made the EFE event possible in the last years and now in 2012. With a lot of passion and dedication Steve and Fred raised the prize money of 5.000€ to welcome an international fleet of top riders at Six Fours. Sailors will have to face hot local talents Adrien Bosson (North/Fanatic) who won the EFE 2010 and Julien Mas, winner of the EFE tow in title 2011, as well as the other French worldclass freestyle riders: Nicolas Akgazciyan (Starboard) and Anthony Ruenes.

We asked local sailor Adrien Bosson (North/Fanatic) to tell us something about the event and the spot:

'The place helped a lot in making the freestyle event bigger, as there are a lot of young freestylers sailing here all year round. You can sail in all wind directions, but most of the time it gets windy from the north-west (Mistral). The conditions get a bit choppy then, but there is also some flat area close to the the beach. All in all it is a  good mix for freestyle. If the wind blows from the east, it's off shore and really flat. It only  means that you have to sail far on the outside and away from the beach. The westerly direction is definitely the best though.'

Adrien tells us, that not only the French riders know the qualities of the spot. Even international freestylers came to Six Fours les Plages to seize the conditions. Dieter Van Der Eyken (Starboard), Yarden Meir (Fanatic), Tilo Eber (JP/Neilpryde) and also Tonky Frans from Bonaire already trained there.

'I know that a lot of  motivated people are involved in this event. They really want to make it bigger each year, still keeping the fun and the nice familiar atmosphere. I am really happy about this new step, with the EFE hosting an EFPT event. It demonstrates to the people what windsurfing means nowadays and it can help make the sport bigger here.' says the young local freestyle talent.

The whole EFE event 2012 will be dedicated to Vincent Mellouet, freestyle windsurfer from France, and winner of the event in 2009, who tragically passed away at the beginning of this year.
