At the beginning of the century, when Ricardo Campello and Kevin Mevissen won PWA and EFPT titles, there was one brand listed on the top of all result lists, JP-Australia. Since then the team around Jason Polakow brought novelties into freestyle windsurfing theretofore unseen. Always with an eye on competitions the Aussie brand is today fighting for titles in every windsurfing discipline. We spoke with one of the brightest characters on the European Freestyle Pro Tour about his boards. Andy Bubble Chambers gave us a little insight about the JP-Australia team.
EFPT: Hi Andy, are you still working in Vassiliki?
Andy “Bubble“ Chambers: Yes i was there for the summer and now i am in the UK where i just became British Freestyle Champion at the National Championships.
EFPT: What are you looking for in a windsurfing board?
ABC: Speed! For me i like a board that goes fast also a board that rotates well so nice and short. At the same time though its nice to have a bit of forgiveness in a board to help learn new moves.
EFPT: You signed up with JP/Neilpryde in 2008. How do you like the brand? What makes it special?
ABC: The brand is amazing!! Its like being sponsored by BMW!! The team is awesome and you get a really great feeling of team spirit. The communication is the best it can be which is very important. The brand looks after every rider always making sure that everything is how it should be. We are included in everything that happens including the development of the boards.
EFPT: JP´s new freestyle boards promise to be made for spectacular big moves. How does this come into action?
ABC: Well they are really fast and have great pop which means that its easier to do the more spectacular air moves. They are also shorter so more of the board rotates in the air.
EFPT: You were, together with Antxon Otaegui and other teamriders, hosting the JP Young Guns camp. Did you spot the future freestyle champion?
ABC: Definitely!! Everywhere i go i see the new wonder kids ripping all the new moves! Especially on the JP Young Guns Camp in Prassonissi. They are super motivated, they learn fast and already from a very young age. For sure we will see some of them pushing on to the EFPT and PWA Tours soon.
